I always wondered about western estimates of the number of soldiers in China. During the SARS period I read one report that said there 500,000 called up in Hebei while I was in Hebei. I never saw any of them.

How exactly are you supposed to tell how many soldiers there are when most of the men in the northeast dress like this in the winter?
