I really should have titled this "New strain of Asian Bird Flu found" :)


Ahh, how nostalgic. I remember seeing colored chicks like these for sale at the market in a small town in southern Spain, where I lived as a kid. Many many years ago.


Oh no, they're back! Please no! Chicks died fancy colours and sold as toys. Every bloody year. When I was in Taiyuan, I was told that out there, the chicks aren't fed. They're just toys for the kids to play with for a while. I don't know if it's any different in any other part of the country, but I haven't seen them here in Beijing yet.


I am sure that is what happens most of the time here too. Back in America every year on Easter lots of bunnys and chicks have this problem too. Cute pets for a month and then...

the same thing happened to my mom with some Easter duck or something that she had as a little girl. One day she came home from school and went to find her precious friend...she found it all right--simmering in a pot. It traumatized her (and the bird too, I imagine).
